2027 Part D: your drug costs are capped at $2,400.
Insights from David Harder, President · Published
Quick answer: for 2027, your yearly out-of-pocket cost for covered Part D prescription drugs is capped at $2,400, up from $2,100 in 2026. Once you reach the cap, you pay $0 for covered Part D drugs for the rest of the year.
What counts toward the $2,400?
Your deductible, copays and coinsurance for drugs covered by your plan. Your monthly premium does not count.
Does the cap apply to Medicare Advantage?
Yes, if your Medicare Advantage plan includes drug coverage. It also applies to stand-alone Part D plans.
Can I spread the cost out?
Yes. The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan lets you pay your drug costs in monthly amounts through the year instead of all at once at the pharmacy.
Should I review my plan this year?
Plans change their drug lists, pharmacies and costs every year. Annual Enrollment runs October 15 to December 7, and any changes start January 1.
